Director of Education & HR (Temporary 12-Month Maternity Leave)

Hillside Pines is an Eden Alternative long-term care home dedicated to creating a warm, safe, and person-directed community for Elders and care partners. We are currently seeking a Director of Human Resources & Education, a key leadership role that supports our mission of fostering a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. This is a unique opportunity to lead both HR and education services under one portfolio—strengthening our culture of continuous learning, ensuring compliance, supporting care partner development, and contributing directly to an engaged, thriving workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources Leadership

  • Participate in recruitment, retention, onboarding, health and safety, and HR policy initiatives.
  • Lead consistent and effective orientation processes across all departments.
  • Maintain HR policies, ensure compliance with legislation, and recommend updates as needed.
  • Prepare HR metrics and reports to support strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and organized personnel records, payroll information, and confidential care partners files.
  • Oversee the collection, organization, and management of care partner information to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficient HR operations.
  • Administer benefits and pension programs in accordance with best practices.
  • Support progressive discipline processes and performance management systems.

Education & Training Leadership

  • Ensure training meets all regulatory requirements and maintain accurate education records.
  • Create and update training materials, manuals, and online learning content.
  • Mentor and support care partners, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety training requirements and quality management standards.
  • Acts as the primary administrator for both Niuz communication and Surge Learning, overseeing platform use, maintaining content and assignments, and supporting care partners with access, troubleshooting, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal education program (Certificate, Bachelor’s, or Graduate level) in Human Resources or Education
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Human Resources, Education, or management role.
  • Long-Term Care experience considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of HR legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly proactive, innovative, and collaborative approach to work.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
