Director of Resident Care (Full-Time) – Villa Acadienne

 

Villa Acadienne is a licensed long-term care home located in Meteghan, Nova Scotia, proudly serving the Acadian and broader Clare community. Our home accommodates 96 residents, providing a warm, bilingual (French/English) environment where quality of life, dignity, and person-centered care is at the heart of everything we do.

Position Scope:
Responsible to the CEO/Administrator, the Director of Resident Care is responsible for the nursing program at Villa Acadienne, in accordance with the vision, mission, and values of the organization. The Director of Resident Care is responsible for providing leadership to the multidisciplinary team, overseeing person centered care, seeking innovation and quality improvement in alignment with provincial licensing standards and in collaboration with the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors in Long-Term Care. The Director of Care plays an active role in the overall management and operations of the facility.?

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall provision of care and services for the residents who reside at Villa Acadienne.
  • Oversees the Management Team and provides guidance and direction to ensure the delivery of person-centered care to the residents is ongoing and is based on individualized plans of care and best practice.
  • Collaborate with the CEO/Administrator and other directors to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate operations of the organization in accordance with established policies, the strategic plan, and defined mission, values, goals and objectives.
  • Participates in an organized system for interdisciplinary communication and ensures that regular interdisciplinary team meetings occur.?
  • Ensures that the services of the Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner and other clinicians are acquired through contract and accessed to meet the needs of residents.
  • Responsible for ensuring that legislated requirements for the home are being met and that the facility and staff meet the professional and legal standards required by the Homes for Special Care Act, The Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care and provincial Long-Term Care licensing requirements.
  • Ensures that programs related to risk management are established (e.g., Pharmacy Committee, Joint Occupation Health and Safety, Infection Control, etc.).
  • Participate in relevant internal and external Committees as required.
  • Manages the annual budget and consults with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care for Over Cost Funding when required. Reviews and analyses monthly financial statements, addresses variances and initiates corrective action.
  • Directs and advises on financial planning activities, renovations, repairs and capital acquisitions to the physical structures and projects in the organization.
  • Oversee purchases and controls inventory of clinical supplies, allocating resources efficiently and monitoring usage of supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in the collective bargaining process with the union, Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Maintains current knowledge of the union contracts and ensures they are being complied with.
  • Ensures the effective functioning of the organization by overseeing the supervision of employees, including selection, continued education, assignment of tasks; performance evaluation; problem solving, as well as managing conflicts, complaints and Union grievances. Oversees that adequate staffing is maintained in all departments and programs.
  • Ensures that there is supervision and evaluation of students and trainees during placements.
  • Creates a working environment that encourages positive staff morale, an interdisciplinary team approach, motivation and commitment through frequent interaction with staff.
  • Oversee the admission, discharge and re-admission of residents/clients in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Care, and the broader interdisciplinary team.?
  • Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates resident/client care and programing offered through the organization’s recreation program.
  • Participates in management on-call roster.?
  • Responsible to ensure that a high quality of life is achieved for each resident and client through person focused care and support.
  • Acts on behalf of the CEO/Administrator in their absence.

Qualifications:

  • Currently registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses.
  • Post-secondary degree in Health Profession(s) and a member in good standing with applicable licensing/professional bodies. Completion of leadership or comparable course or willingness to complete upon hire.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive nursing experience and education in which leadership, administrative and interpersonal skills have been demonstrated.
  • Experience with budgets and human resource management is required.
  • Past Long Term Care experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and social.
  • Excellent conflict management skills.?
  • Budget management and preparation.
  • May require flexibility with work hours at times.


Physical Demands

  • Maintain good mental and physical health.?
  • Able to maintain attendance consistent with the Attendance Management Program.
  • Position involves sitting, standing, walking, use of a computer and cell phone.

Work Environment

  • The usual work environment is indoors.?
  • Pets and houseplants are part of the working environment.
  • Villa Acadienne provides services for adults who may have physical limitations, intellectual disabilities, mental health concerns or dementia who, from time to time when upset, may exhibit behaviors.
